Available for Adoption
These 4 male Canaan Dogs are yard/play buddies available for adoption. They are crate-trained, neutered, current on vaccinations & receiving treatment for heartworms.
Unfortunately they did not get a lot of handling in their prior home (owners were experiencing health problems & were spread thin) so are very under-socialized. Compounded with the breed's natural wariness & the upheaval they have been through, this means that they find new places/experiences/people to be very disconcerting. They will need patient, calm homes accepting of a long acclimation period & people who are understanding if the dog back-tracks when going to yet another strange, new place.
The boys are used to being outdoors & have spent more time with other dogs than people so have great canine social skills. They all get along great with polite or playful females, some other males, and would acclimate better to a new home if adopted with a buddy/buddies from their original pack. All can receive further evaluation and training with cats, poultry, & small/large livestock.
Appa (white) still has a way to go but have made good progress. Appa loves to plunk down & lay in water or mud puddles so would enjoy a home with water features or a kiddie pool. He is guesstimated to be 6-7 years old and is a very good alert dog, barking at anything/anyone he perceives new or out of place. With time & patience, Appa has the ability to blossom into wonderful a companion.
Colley (black & white) makes a great trio with Appa & Yorry and gets along well with other dogs. He is naturally a very gentle, compliant dog but has a lot of feral behaviors to overcome & may always be happiest existing in the background or as a companion to other dogs vs people. He has made some progress (Yorry was his emotional support dog for a bit) but started from further behind than the others. He has a congenital foot deformity (missing toes) so walks on 4 feet, runs on 3, & plays more gently or watches the others play.
Butterscotch (cream) can relax & play when in familiar surroundings with his friends but still gets very scared & flustered at times. He needs a calm, predictable, adult-only home with sympathetic, compassionate people that will not push him too far or too fast outside of his comfort zone. He is more selective with other males but would be great paired with very submissive Colley.
If you have the space & time to give two deserving, needy underdogs a place to relax & call Home, adopting Butterscotch & Colley would truly be a worthy good deed. They are guesstimated to be around 2-4 years old so have long lives ahead of them.
They are being fostered near Houston Texas.
